Foodscapes of HK
Saving Hong Kong’s food heritage

Hi, my name is Elinor.
I know how much food culture matters - because, growing up with severe allergies, I always felt excluded from my own.
From the 6th floor of the hospital ward, I constantly overheard the bustling streets of customers filling up dai pai dongs - the clashing of their cups as they celebrated a meal of warm and sizzling dishes.
After many years of immunotherapy, I was finally able to appreciate Hong Kong’s incredible food heritage. But, as restaurants began to close in droves over the pandemic and my locals were replaced with Starbucks and Bubble Tea chains, it was clear that this part of my culture was being eroded.
‘Foodscapes’ is my attempt to tackle this erosion, and to fight to preserve it for future generations.
Please join me in celebrating HK’s food culture — before it’s too late.
